Riverbrook is grateful to Scouts

Saturday June 22, 2013

To the editor of THE EAGLE:

On June 10, The Eagle published a letter by Valerie and Peter Bluhm praising Troop 3 of the Boy Scouts in Lee for the big help they were at the Ferncliff Reservation. Riverbrook Residence of Stockbridge enlisted the help of Hunter McCormick, senior district executive of the Western Massachusetts Council of BSA in May for a project. Hunter and Troop 3 Scout Leader Chris Johnson stepped right in to facilitate the task of moving and spreading a mountain of compost to our large raised bed garden. Healthy meals are prepared using vegetables from our own organic garden as well as growing flowers to sell at local shops.

Eleven Scouts aging in range from 10 to 18 worked effortlessly as a team in the hot sun for more than four hours. The older Scouts demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and the younger Scouts were all eager to learn and cooperatively participate.

The residents and staff are eternally grateful to the Lee Boys Scout Troop 3 for their hard work, well-mannered attitude and kindness for giving their time to this wonderful community.

The writer is executive director, Riverbrook Residence.
