Road race to affect Sunday traffic in Lenox

LENOX -- A 5K road race scheduled by the Boston University Tanglewood Institute at 8:30 this Sunday morning will affect traffic on several local roads.

About 150 people are expected to take part in the race.

The starting line will be at the intersection of Yokun Avenue and Cliffwood Street, according to a town advisory. The route will proceed northwest along Cliffwood Street and continue to Undermountain Road, ending in the open field Tanglewood parking lot at the corner of Undermountain Road and West Street (Route 183). The race will not be permitted to cross West Street.

No on-street parking is permitted on Yokun Avenue or Cliffwood Street between 8 and 8:30. Both streets will be closed briefly at 8:30 for the start of the race. The intersection of Reservoir Road and Undermountain Road will be closed until all runners have passed.

The Lenox Police Department requests that all drivers reduce speed and exercise caution in consideration of the runners, who will be confined to the right lane road shoulder during the race from 8:30 until about 10. Through traffic from Main Street and West Street is prohibited during this time.

There will be uniformed police officers at both the intersection of Cliffwood and Yokun and at the finish line near Undermountain at West Street. Volunteers will be stationed at the intersection of Reservoir and Undermountain roads to stop traffic until all runners have proceeded beyond the intersection.

Signs will also be in place at the beginning and end of the race course to alert motorists.
