NORTH ADAMS — For the first time in three years, the MCLA men's soccer team has lifted the curtain on its season with a win.

Matt Duffy's goal with under 2 minutes left in the first overtime gave the Trailblazers a 1-0 win over Becker in the season opener for both teams.

Romeo Grey got credit for the assist on Duffy's goal at 98:04. Grey nearly ended the game in the waning minutes of the second half, but his shot hit the post.

The shutout win went to Kamron Anderson, who faced 11 shots and made three saves.

Becker goalkeeper Arnold Schroder saw 12 shots and made five saves. He had one save in overtime, but could not record a second shot.

Garrett Derosia, a freshman from Mount Anthony (Vt.), generated a lot of offense, but had nothing to show for it. Derosia had a game-high five shots and three shots on goal.

COBLESKILL, N.Y. — It was a pretty good opener for the MCLA men's golf team.

Matt Lawrence and Reese Dwyer finished third and fourth, respectively, and their team finished fourth in a six-team tournament at the Cobleskill Golf & Country Club. The tourney was hosted by SUNY Cobleskill.

The hosts won the tournament, shooting 323. MCLA's score was 348, 25 strokes behind the winners, but only six shots behind second-place finisher New Jersey City University.

Lawrence shot a 9-over-par 79 and Dwyer was two shots back at 81. Dylan Mulvihill of the host school finished three shots ahead of Lawrence with a 6-over 76. Matt Russell of SUNY Canton was second with 77.

Two other Trailblazer golfers finished in the top 25. Gabe Evans was 22nd with a 93, while Josh Fortier had 95 to finish tied for 25th.
