Roundup: Greylock's Pelletier finishes fifth at N.E. wrestling
Mount Greylock wrestler Devin Pelletier was wrestling for fifth place in the New England Championships Saturday night, but because of an injury default, earned the honor to be called one of the top five wrestlers in New England in his weight class.
Pelletier was scheduled to wrestler Austin Cooley of Somers, Conn., in the fifth-place match at 160 pounds. Cooley beat Pelletier 12-0 in the quarterfinals, dropping the Mountie wrestler into the consolations.
Pelletier had won his first two bouts, and then after losing to Cooley, beat Tyler Burgess of Mount Anthony 4-2. But Pelletier dropped a 6-4 decision to Kameron Doucette of Skowhegan, Maine in the consolation semifinals.
WILLIAMS MEN 16, TRINITY 15
HARTFORD, CONN. >> Conor Roddy scored his third goal of the game with 50 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Williams men a season-opening win over NESCAC rival Trinity.
After leading 9-4 at halftime, the Ephs were outscored 8-3 in the third quarter and the score was tied at 12.
The Bantams scored the first two goals of the quarter, but the Ephs scored three of the last four to earn the victory.
Michael Fahey and Thomas Fowler each scored four times for Williams, while Ryan Desimone had seven goals for the Bantams.
TRINITY 12, WILLIAMS WOMEN 5
WILLIAMSTOWN >> The Eph women opened their season on Farley-Lamb Field and hung with Trinity in the first half.
But the Bantams scored five unanswered goals to open the second half and the Ephs never caught up.
Martha Griffin led Trinity with four goals and an assist. Five different Ephs scored goals. Anne Rehfuss had a goal and two assists for Williams.
