Roundup: Monument Mountain boys soccer team holds off Wahconah, 4-3

DALTON — The Monument Mountain boys soccer team took a three-goal lead into halftime against Wahconah on Saturday afternoon, but the Warriors gave the Spartans all they could handle in the second half as Monument escaped with a 4-3 win.

Four different Monument players scored in the first half to put the Spartans up 4-1 at the break, but in the second half, Wahconah's Cole Accardi drew and then converted a pair of penalties to bring the game within a goal.

"Both teams were going back and forth," Wahconah coach John Kovacs said of the finish. "It was a battle, it was good stuff."

Austin Holcomb scored a goal and had an assist for Monument.

The Spartans improve to 6-4-2 overall and 4-2 in the Berkshire North, while Wahconah falls to 5-12 and 0-7 in the league.

Williams women's soccer 3, Tufts 0


WILLIAMSTOWN — The No.3 Williams women clinched home-field advantage in the NESCAC tournament with its win over Tufts on Senior Day.

Kristina Alvarado scored twice for the Ephs. Evan Gancedo added an insurance goal in the second period. Olivia Barnhill made one save for the clean sheet.

The Ephs will look to finish their regular season unbeaten at Middlebury on Tuesday.

Tufts 1, Williams men's soccer 0

WILLIAMSTOWN — Zach Lane's first-half goal proved to be the winner against Williams.

The Ephs outshot the Jumbos nine to six, but visiting goalie Bruce Johnson made four saves to secure the shutout.

Williams will travel to Middlebury for its final regular season game Tuesday.

Salem State 4, MCLA men's soccer 0

SALEM — Four Vikings scored goals against MCLA in its shutout loss.

Salem State out-shot MCLA by an 11-6 margin. Mayele Malango and Nahuel Aligbay had two assists each.

MCLA's final regular season game is Friday against Bridgewater State.

NORTH ADAMS — Casey McFall netted the winning goal in the 81st minute, spoiling MCLA's Senior Day.

McFall took one touch and drilled the goal into the left corner of the net.

Meg Richardson made five saves for the Trailblazers.

The 'Blazers will host Nichols on Monday night in their final regular season home match.

Tufts field hockey 2, Williams 0


WILLIAMSTOWN — No. 6 Tufts ended No. 7 Williams seven-game winning streak with a shutout victory.

Rachel Hamilton and Mary Travers scored goals for the Jumbos. Emily Polinski made five saves.

The Ephs return to action against Middlebury on Tuesday.
