Roundup: Monument Mountain boys top Mount Greylock, secure postseason bid
WILLIAMSTOWN — The Monument Mountain boys soccer team needed a win or a draw against Mount Greylock on Sunday to qualify for the Western Mass. Division III postseason.
The Spartans went out and got a win.
On the road in Williamstown, a goal by Justin Broderick with 25:37 to go was the difference in a 1-0 win.
Broderick's goal came through a hopeful effort, as he lifted a shot from 25 yards out that the wind took hold of and sent into the upper corner.
"I'm psyched, especially for the seniors on the team that have really worked hard with a young squad this year," Monument coach Matt Naventi said. "For them to get this result was great."
Both teams now wait to find out their postseason fates. Schedules for the Western Mass. tournaments will be released on Monday.
MM—Justin Broderick (UA), 54:23.
Saves — G: Cal Filson 2. MM: Kevin Kelly 2.
