Roundup: Sadie Anderson scores twice to push Wahconah girls soccer by Mount Greylock

DALTON — Sadie Anderson's two second-half goals sent Wahconah to a 2-0 victory against Mount Greylock on Saturday.

Anderson tapped in the first goal off a free kick in the 59th minute. She added an insurance goal off a well-placed pass from Hannah Ronanye.

Ronanye's pass split two defenders and Anderson did the rest, firing home the goal.

Sage Howes made seven saves for the clean sheet.

"Very proud of them," Wahconah coach Meghan Smith said. "We fixed some things at halftime and they were able to find success in the second half."

Mount Greylock cross-country at Queensbury Invitational

QUEENSBURY, N.Y. — The Mount Greylock cross-country teams competed in the Queensbury Invitational in New York on Saturday, and had a plethora of runners post good times in unfamiliar territory.

For the Greylock boys, the varsity team placed ninth out of 17 teams in the Division I race. Jesse Seid was the top finisher, placing 10th in the 3.1-mile race in 16 minutes, 40 seconds. Sam Culver finished in 18th, Owen Brandriss in 39th, Jacob Fink in 66th and Jakin Miller finished in 87th to round out the scoring five. Bethlehem Central's Jack Huber won the race in 15:56.86.

In the middle school race, Eamon Hetherington was the top finisher on the 1.8-mile course, racing in 10:15. Teammate Chase Doyle was also in the top 10, finishing 10th. The Mountie middle school team won the race by two points, scoring 32 to Saratoga's 34. It was the second year in a row the middle school team took home the team title.

In the freshman race, Greylock's Corban Miller was 19th on the 1.8-mile course.

For the girls, the varsity team took home a fifth-place finish in the Division I race. Jackie Wells was the top finisher, coming across in 10th in 20:09. Sister Lilly Wells was 33rd, Miriam Bakija was 40th, Helen Greenfield finished in 42nd and Hannah Locklear 48th. Faith DeMars of Ballston Spa finished first in 18:45.33.

In the freshman race, Greylock's Hazel Scullin finished third in 11:31.8.

And it was a middle school sweep for Greylock as the girls' team crushed Guilderland 21 to 70. Kate Swann finished second to lead the Mounties, running in 6:24.2, while Tessa Leveque was fourth, Sophie Mele was sixth, Ainsley Abel was 11th and Mackenzie Sheehy was 13th.
