Sandisfield nurse accused of stealing more than $25K
PITTSFIELD -- A registered nurse the state Attorney General’s Office alleges defrauded Medicaid of more than $25,000 pleaded not guilty on Monday in Berkshire Superior Court to 15 charges.
The attorney for Robin Annecharico, 49, of Sandisfield said his client "unequivocally denies the charges against her."
Attorney Anthony Gianacopoulos said Annecharico has had a long career "with no blemishes on her record."
According to the state Attorney General’s Office, Annecharico billed MassHealth -- the state’s Medicaid program -- for the nursing care of three children in Housatonic while she was either attending or participating in rodeo competitions.
The rodeo events were in Mississippi, Virginia and Georgia between 2007 and 2009, law enforcement officials said. Gianacopoulos said there were no independent witnesses to the alleged crimes.
The AG’s office also alleged that Annecharico provided false treatment records to investigators and the Berkshire County grand jury in response to a subpoena during the Attorney General’s investigation.
The case was investigated by Investigator Rachel Cooper with assistance from state police assigned to the AG’s office and the MassHealth Provider Compliance Unit.
Annecharico cooperated with the state investigators, according to her attorney.
On Monday, Annecharico appeared before Judge Daniel A. Ford who released her on personal recognizance with the condition she have no contact with the children involved in the case.
She is facing six counts each of larceny over $250 and submitting false Medicaid claims, two counts of obstruction and a single count of perjury by written attestation.
Assistant Attorney General Kriss Basil and Gianacopoulos agreed to a May pretrial hearing in the case.
