Saturday's colleges: Cross country win for MCLA's Cancilla
CASTLETON, Vt. -- Former St. Joseph’s High School standout Anthony Cancilla was the first runner over the finish line in the Castleton State Invitational on Saturday. He won the 8K race in 30:21. MCLA finished second, while Castleton won the event.
MCLA was third overall in the women’s race. Claire Simmons was seventh overall in 24:17, and was MCLA’s top finisher.
Williams cross country
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Led by Amelia Ortiz, Williams won the Ron Stonitsch Invit ational. Ortiz finished in 19:11. The Ephs placed seven runners in the top 10, finishing with 21 points to New Paltz’s 84. The men also won, led by sophomore Cole Townsend’s 19:56 finish.
Eph soccer sweeps Bates
WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Williams men’s team scored in each half to remain unbeaten with a 2-0 win over Bates.
Meanwhile, the Williams women knocked off the Bobcats by the same 2-0 margin.
In the men’s contest, Matt Kastner’s unassisted score at 42:47 gave the Ephs (3-0) all the scoring they would need.
Than Finan picked up his second win, making two saves.
In the women’s match, Williams picked up its first win of the year, scoring twice in the first half.
MCLA soccer splits
NORTH ADAMS -- A second-half goal by SUNY-IT’s Kurreem Williams snapped a 1-1 tie and gave the Wildcats a 2-1 win over MCLA (2-1) in the first round of the annual CIAO Classic.
MCLA’s James Brown, assisted by Edgar Asamoah, scored at 32:20 to tie the score at 1. After intermission, Williams scored from Matt Arcidiacono. MCLA’s Dillon Wager had nine saves.
The MCLA women defeated Elms, 4-3 in double overtime to take their first win of the year. MCLA junior Jennifer Ferrari collected a hat trick, while Lindsay Borbolla had a goal and three assists for the winners (1-2).
KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- MCLA fell to 0-4 with a three-set loss to SUNY-Canton, 25-20, 25-13 and 25-17. Kelley Bryant had 15 digs for MCLA.
High school boys soccer
Drury 2, Mount Anthony 2
NORTH ADAMS -- Drury was within five minutes of its first win on Saturday before Mount Anthony’s Dylan Prazak scored.
Connor Meehan tied the game for the Blue Devils on a redirected ball in the 32nd minute before Jacob Groves put Drury up 2-1 20 minutes later.
