Saturday's roundup: Pittsfield girls soccer earns another shutout victory
LONGMEADOW -- Morgan Matthews had a goal and an assist while Allie Hunt made five saves in net to lead Pittsfield to a 3-0 road victory over Longmeadow on Saturday.
Rachael Hunt got the scoring started in the 21st minute off an assist from Carly Robinson before Matthews set up Amanda Wright in the 47th minute. Matthews adder her first varsity goal 16 minutes later.
"It’s a big win for us to go down there," said PHS coach Andy Waluszko. "We played very well defensively. It took us a little while to get moving. We put pressure on them throughout the game."
Waluszko said Hunt made two critical saves, one shutting down an angle in the first half and another when she punched out a floater with the Generals up by just a goal. Pittsfield has not surrendered a goal since the season opener at West Springfield.

DALTON -- Erin Hopmans’ goal off an Alex Keator corner kick in the 77th minute was all the Warriors needed.
"It was an absolutely beautiful corner," Wahconah coach Pat West said. "It was headed toward the back of the goal. It hit the ground, and [Erin] just one-timed it in."
Jamie Downer made nine saves for Wahconah.
"She hit a point-blank blast right over the top of the goal," West said. "This kid was about 8 feet in front of her. She managed to get her hand up and just deflect it over the top."

Delasco had her hat trick 30 minutes in, getting the third goal on a direct kick.
"She’s finding the ball; she’s making no mistakes; she’s super aggressive and she’s burying the opportunities," Cote said. "She’s connecting on almost every opportunity."

Mount Anthony (Vt.) 1, Mount Greylock 0
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Despite strong possession, the Mounties couldn’t convert against their opponents from Vermont.
Shelby Mclenithan scored the only goal of the game with 15 minutes left thanks to a defensive breakdown in midfield.
"They took advantage of their best opportunity," Greylock coach Tom Ostheimer said. "It seems to be becoming a pattern [early this season] where we’re controlling play, controlling possession and just not being able to convert. ... I think we’re going to have to move some people around. We just can’t seem to finish."

"Dom’s a very determined player," said Taconic coach Mark Wasnewsky. "You could see it after he missed that goal. He gets very upset with himself but he has the ability to keep his focus in the game."
