Saturday's roundup: Taconic girls hoops falls in OT
PITTSFIELD -- Belchertown pulled away in overtime thanks to some strong foul shooting to earn a 60-58 win over Taconic.
Tea Spellacy had 28 points -- including four 3-pointers -- for the Orioles. Taconic got 16 points and eight rebounds from sophomore Brianna Rogers while Angela O'Neil scored 12.
"They made their free throws in overtime," said Braves coach Matt Mickle. "I think my team played one of our better games if not our best games of the year. ... We just got to do a better job of getting to the line and getting those shots. I was happy with our effort. We're getting close here."
The game was tied after the second, third and fourth quarters. Belchertown built a five-point lead in OT, but the Braves hit a long buzzer-beater to cut the final spread to two points.
Monument goes 2-2
BARRE -- The Monument wrestling team wrapped up its regular season schedule by going 2-2 at the Quabbin duals, finishing 15-13.
The Spartans beat Sabis (52-27) and Bristol Agricultural (57-18) while losing to host Quabbin (53-21) and Masconomet (45-27).
Jonah Christianson went 4-0 at 220 pounds while Sebastian Zapata was 3-1 at 138 pounds. Alex Dupont (145), Mark Leon-Duque (160, 170) and Craig Cooley (160, 170) all won two matches.
Williams men 76,
Bowdoin 64, OT
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Williams scored 15 of the 18 points in overtime. Michael Mayer had 22 points for the Ephs, while Taylor Epley had 21. Daniel Wohl and James Klemm had 11 points each.
The game was tied at the end of each half, but the Ephs cruised in overtime. Bowdoin scored the first points of the period on a 3 from Matt Mathias. Williams rattled off the next 15 points for the win.
MCLA men 78, Worcester 75
NORTH ADAMS -- MCLA held on for the victory to move to 7-1 in MASCAC.
John Jones had 21 points while Paul Maurice added 12 and Bilal Shabazz had 10 points for the Trailblazers.
MCLA led by five at half but fell behind twice in the second half. Maurice's 3-pointer midway through the second gave the Trailblazers a 43-42 lead they would build to eight points before the guests responded. MCLA wouldn't trail again.
Williams women 50, Bowdoin 42
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Ephs outscored Bowdoin by 14 in the second half.
Claire Baecher led Williams with 22 points while Jennie Harding had 12. The Ephs trailed by six after the first half before exploding for 35 points in the second.
Worcester 54, MCLA 51
NORTH ADAMS -- Danielle Scolpino had 18 points and Lucy Tremblay added 16 but MCLA still came up short against Worcester State.
The Trailblazers led by seven at the half but could only muster 20 points after the break.
Williams 0, Wesleyan 0
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Williams couldn't get a goal, despite 46 shots.
Amherst 4, Williams 2
AMHERST -- The Ephs fell behind 3-0, but clawed back to 3-2. Unfortunately, that's where the rally ended.
Courtney Baranek's empty-net goal with 1:08 left assured the hosts of the victory. Sam Cutts and Michaela Levine had goals for Williams.
