Selectman's race lone contest in Otis


OTIS — A current and former selectman square off in the only contested race during Tuesday's annual town election.

Incumbent Donald Hawley is facing a challenge from Gary Thomas, who served on the Otis Select Board from 1987-89, after which he spent 14 years on the Finance Committee, according to town records. Hawley was first elected to the board in May 1998, and has served 18 consecutive years.

Polls are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 1 North Main Road.

The candidates running unopposed are Town Moderator Blake Middleton and Town Clerk Lyn Minery, Michael Ernst for Finance Committee and Russell Loring, board of assessors.

Other uncontested candidates are John "Jack" Conboy, tree warden, Bruce Wall and Roger Meyer for Cemetery Commission, Walter Engles, library trustee and James Carlin for Planning Board.

There are no candidates on the ballot for a one-year unexpired term on the Farmington River Regional School District Committee.
