Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Berkshire County

PITTSFIELD - The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Berkshire County that is in effect until 9 p.m.

There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms in the Berkshires ahead of a cold front this afternoon and into early evening.

According to the National Weather Service, thunderstorms could produce winds of 58 miles per hour or more, and contain hail the size of quarters or larger.

Frequent lightining and heavy rain may accompany these storms, which are expected to move from west to east at 35 miles per hour.
