Shakespeare & Company Summer Gala: B'way comes to Lenox
LENOX -- Two-time Tony Award-winner Tonya Pinkins ("Jelly’s Last Jam" and "Caroline, or, Change"), Tony nominee Forrest McClendon ("The Scottsboro Boys") and Theater World Award winner Jackie Hoffman ("Hairspray") head the cast of Shakespeare & Company’s one-night only benefit performance and dinner, "Broadway in the Berkshires," July 8 at the Tina Packer Playhouse, 70 Kemble St.
Company member Deborah Grausman is producing, as well as performing. Sam Scalamoni is directing.
In addition to Pinkins, McClendon and Hoffman (who appeared in "Brace Yourself" last summer at Berkshire Theatre Group in Stockbridge), the line-up of Broadway and off-Broadway performers includes Charlotte Cohn, Leah Edwards, Russell Arden Koplin, Peter Mazurowski, Jonathan Rayson and Brian Charles Rooney.
The cast also features Metropolitan Opera singer Dimitri Pittas, along with a select group of actors from Broadway Across America’s most popular national tours, including Grausman ("Fiddler on the Roof") and Carla Stickler ("Wicked").
Other actors slated to perform are Shakespeare & Company members Eleni Delopoulos, David Joseph and Nora Menken, along with New York Philharmonic and City Opera performers Adam Alexander and Michael Marcotte.
Rounding out the cast are Sarah Corey, Dana Mazurowski and Yanni’s featured vocalist, Lauren Jelencovich.
All of the artists are donating their time and talent.
Proceeds will go to Shakespeare & Company’s education and training programs.
"After the incredible success of the first Broadway showcase two years ago, I knew I wanted Deborah to produce another star-studded event that will raise funds to educate and train the next generation of artists," Shakespeare & Company’s artistic director Tony Simotes said in a news release.
"I am incredibly honored and Š grateful to be working on what promises to be another dazzling event involving so many truly accomplished artists," Grausman added.
