Sheffield: Annual town celebration, fair slated Sept. 5-6


"Sheffield in Celebration" weekend, an annual event founded by the Sheffield Association, takes place Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5 and 6.

Friday’s activities include a "Preserving the Harvest" program from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Farmers Market, and "The History of Hard Cider Making" presented by the Historical Society at 7:30 p.m. at Dewey Hall, Route 7.

The exhibit, "Distilleries, Drinking and Prohibition," opens Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Old Stone Store. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends through Oct. 12.

A guided 10-mile history bike ride for ages 10 and up will begin at noon Saturday, Sept. 6, from the Town Park. Helmets are required. The ride is limited to 12 people. To register, contact Gary or Judy at

The Sheffield Fair will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Town Park. Admission is free. Highlights include food, apple pie contest, quilt raffle, ropes course, vendors, crafts and displays, live music, kids’ activities, dunking booth, and animal judging.

The annual Sheffield Kiwanis/Firemen’s steak roast will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Town Park pavilion. The cost is $25 per person. A children’s menu is available. Proceeds benefit the Sheffield Hose Co. #1 Building Fund and Kiwanis-sponsored services.
