Sheffield: Historical Society exhibit honors living veterans

In anticipation of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, and to honor Memorial Day, the Sheffield Historical Society will open an exhibit titled "Veterans’ Stories" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, May 26, at the Old Stone Store on the Village Green, Route 7.

The exhibit will consist of interactive videos of interviews with local veterans conducted by students of Mount Everett and Monument Mountain High Schools, using guidelines set down by the Library of Congress American Folklife Center.

There will also be displays describing the various conflicts and the United States’ involvement, as well as a display of veterans’ uniforms.

After Memorial Day, the exhibit will be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, May 31 through July 7. A reception, with invited participating veterans, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 8.

The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
