Sunday November 11, 2012

SHEFFIELD -- A local man was killed Sunday afternoon after crashing his dirt bike into a tree, Sheffield police said.

Kyle Curtiss, in his 20s, was riding on Barnum Street not far from his residence about 3:25 p.m. when his bike left the road and slammed into a tree. Several passersby came upon the crash, called 911 and attempted CPR on Curtiss, who was knocked unconscious, according to police.

The Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad arrived on the scene and continued to try and revive the young as he was being transported to Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Police said Curtiss was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Curtiss was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the cause of which remains under investigation.
