Sheffield town employees to be paid biweekly
SHEFFIELD -- Selectmen have agreed to start paying town employees biweekly instead of weekly.
The Selectmen this week approved the conversion to the more cost-effective biweekly system. This was a recommendation put forth by a recent study of the town’s services sponsored by the University of Massachusetts.
The biweekly paycheck schedule won’t be implemented until at least Jan. 1, according to Town Administrator Rhonda LaBombard.
"That’s a significant project, and we should take our time on it," said Selectman Rene Wood. "I know there is potential for some disruption. If this gets implemented by Jan. 1, I’ll be happy."
The study also suggested moving the town accountant from the treasurer’s office to the Selectmen’s office. That will happen by July.
The board also appointed Marie Messini-Reynolds to the Planning Board and re-appointed Randy Robarge as a fireman.
