Sheffield will vote Monday on solar company tax pact

SHEFFIELD — Voters at Monday's special town meeting will be asked to approve a tax agreement with a solar energy company.

The company, Solar MA Project Management LLC of Danbury, Conn., has already won town approval for a two-megawatt solar array on Home Road. Monday's article will enable the company and town to set up a tax agreement over the next 20 years so both parties will be able to anticipate the revenue stream to the town. A "no" vote will not defeat the project, according to Town Administrator Rhonda LaBombard, since the company already has town approval.

In addition, Solar MA will have to put up a performance bond over that 20-year span to cover the costs of dismantling the array should the project fail.

The other two articles call for realigning the Council on Aging membership from 11 to nine, and to transfer $2,500 to the COA operating budget.

The meeting is slated for 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center at 25 Cook Road.
