Smitty goes above and beyond

Tuesday October 16, 2012

We are writing in support of Smitty Pignatelli’s bid for re-election as our state representative in Boston.

This past June, Smitty really came through for us in the face of a family emergency. Our daughter’s wedding was just about to take place after a full year of planning. We were informed at the very last minute, on the day of the rehearsal dinner, that town officials were barring the venue from hosting the weekend’s events because of building code issues. Guests were expected to arrive within the hour, from all over the U.S. and several foreign countries, and we had no idea how we could resolve the situation and salvage our plans.

As a last resort, we called Rep. Pignatelli’s office in Boston at 2:15 on Friday afternoon. We had very little hope or expectation that the state representative would take any interest in such a personal dilemma.

Smitty’s staff was able to reach him right away and he called us right back. He understood the details of the problem and swung into action immediately.

He was able to mediate among the various parties involved -- several town officials, the fire department and county sheriff’s office, the owners of the wedding venue -- to negotiate a compromise solution that satisfied all parties at the very last minute.

Without Smitty’s skillful intervention, it would have been a disaster. About three hours later, right in the middle of the rehearsal dinner, our cell phone rang. It was Smitty calling just to check in and make sue that everything was going smoothly.

Smitty Pignatelli went to bat for us in a way that was above and beyond a state representative’s job. It is an example of how seriously he takes his responsibility to serve his constituents.

Don’t forget to vote on Nov. 6!
