Softball: Alicia Bazonski's 14 strikeouts lead Mount Everett over Wahconah
SHEFFIELD -- Alicia Bazonski might just be in midseason form in early April.
The Mount Everett pitcher struck out 14 Wahconah batters in a complete-game performance Thursday, leading the Eagles softball team to a 7-3 win over the Warriors.
Bazonski (2-0) walked just one batter, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits.
"Right now, she's just dominant on the mound," Mount Everett coach Kurt DeGrenier said. "She throws hard, she's hitting her spots and she's throwing all of her pitches."
DeGrenier added that he expected this kind of performance, as Bazonski has honed her craft in the offseason through ASA travel competition.
Brooke Morehouse had the big hit of the Eagles' three-run fourth inning, a two-run single. Bazonski, Morgan DeGrenier, Emily Coon and Sam Hoover added RBI for Mount Everett. Hoover's was a leadoff home run in the sixth inning.
For Wahconah, Gabby Lavinio hit a solo homer in the first inning. Becca Grunow went the distance on the mound for Wahconah, taking the loss.
