Softball roundup: Wahconah gets walk-off win over Taconic in 12th

Posted

DALTON — On Monday, the Wahconah softball team needed only five innings to get a win. Tuesday night, they more than doubled that — but still came out victorious.

Emma Parkington's RBI double in the bottom of the 12th inning scored Kayla Kowalczyk from second base as the Warriors (11-4) outlasted Taconic 2-1 in extra frames at Pinegrove Park.

It was quite a pitchers duel. Wahconah's Allie Borowsky gave up a first inning run on seven hits and seven strikeouts, while Taconic's Ashley Keegan gave up eight hits and a walk, while striking out nine.

"Ashley Keegan threw a very good game," Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. "I was proud of the way we stuck with it.

"I'm very happy for Emma Parkington. She had a big night for us."

Parkington, who scored the tying run in the third inning, was the fourth hitter up in the 12th. Kowalczyk and Juli McBain led off with back-to-back singles. One out later, Parkington hit a ball to straightaway center field, plating Kowalczyk.

Taconic had a chance to take the lead in the top of the ninth, but Wahconah's Chloe Warren turned an inning-ending double play. Wahconah loaded the bases in the 10th, but did not score.
