Springfield: Eversource to begin Western Mass. aerial inspections

To help ensure the reliability of the region's transmission system, Eversource is set to conduct comprehensive aerial inspections of electrical equipment on local rights-of-way.

Inspections are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, March 28 and 29, weather permitting.

Affected cities and towns in and around Berkshire County include Plainfield, Windsor, Peru, Hinsdale, Dalton, Cheshire, Lanesborough, Hancock, Pittsfield, Lenox, and Lee.

Eversource will be surveying hundreds of miles of transmission lines from a helicopter to get a birds-eye view. This work may, at times, require hovering over and next to electrical equipment to inspect for damage or hazards caused by vines, trees or other vegetation.

The aircraft will be a blue and silver helicopter with tail number N1431W.
