Springfield man charged with killing housemate

SPRINGFIELD (AP) - A Springfield man has been charged with killing his housemate.

Frederick Pinney was arrested on Monday and charged with murder in connection with the death last month of 29-year-old Tayclair Moore. Pinney is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.

Police responded to the home the 45-year-old Pinney and Moore shared on March 23 after getting a call from another resident who said he was Moore's boyfriend.

An autopsy determined that Moore had been strangled.

Police did not disclose a possible motive for the slaying or say what led to Pinney as a suspect.

A man who identified himself as Pinney's son told The Republican that his father is innocent.

The death is the first homicide of the year in Springfield, which had 19 last year.
