A digest of what's playing at theaters in and around the Berkshires based upon reviews by Berkshire Eagle theater critic Jeffrey Borak. Capsules include publication date of review, closing date of production, performance schedule, and production's running time.

H denotes a highly recommended critic's choice. FULLY COMMITTED. In a work shift from hell, an amiable out-of-work actor named Sam, who earns most of his living as a reservation clerk at one of New York's trendiest restaurants, has to deal with the egos, temperaments and demands of a fussy clientele and even fussier superiors up the employment food chain. Daniel Osman handles the role of Sam and the nearly 40 other people he has to deal with on the phone with an actorly skill that is more affecting in Sam's conversations with his widower father than with the remaining cartoonish characters (5/8). Through May 18. Eves.: 7:30 Thu.-Sat. Mats.: 3 Sun. (1:12).

OF MICE AND MEN. John Steinbeck's stage adaptation of his potent 1937 novel about the bond between two farm workers -- one a restless young man with modest ambitions; the other a mentally challenged well-intentioned giant who has a way of killing the things he loves -- is given short shrift in this shallow, dramatically arid rendering (5/8). Through May 18. Eves. 8 Thu.-Sat. Mats.: 2 Sun. (2:25).

Hubbard Hall Theater Company, Hubbard Hall., 25 E. Main St., Cambridge, N.Y. Tickets: $22-$15. (518) 677-2495;
