State senator agrees to repay graduation party money

BOSTON >> A Massachusetts state senator has agreed to pay nearly $5,000 for using campaign funds to pay for his son's 2014 high school graduation party.

The state Office of Campaign and Political Finance announced Wednesday that Sen. Brian Joyce used campaign funds for personal expenses and failed to disclose campaign finance activity or keep detailed records.

In addition, a former campaign worker repaid Joyce's campaign fund for allegedly making $4,480 in improper cash withdrawals using a campaign debit card.

The Milton Democrat in a statement to The Boston Globe said there was "no finding of wrongdoing on my part," adding that the party had the potential to enhance his political future.

Joyce recently came under scrutiny for accepting free dry cleaning from a business in his district for years.
