Stepmother of Boston child found dead denies assault charge
BOSTON >> The stepmother of a 3-year-old Boston boy who died after being found unresponsive at his home earlier this year has been charged with assault and battery on a child.
Marie Buie (BYOO'-ee) was held on $100,000 bail after pleading not guilty Tuesday.
Prosecutors say the 26-year-old Buie was the boy's only caregiver when police arrived at the home in the city's Roxbury neighborhood on Jan. 31 and found him suffering from traumatic injuries. He died at a hospital two days later.
Prosecutors say the boy suffered serious injuries to his neck, eyes, head, back and penis.
The death remains under investigation.
Buie's attorney says there is no evidence that his client inflicted the injuries.
The state child welfare agency had been involved with the family prior to the boy's death.
