Stockbridge: Assessors announce reinspection program

Monday April 29, 2013

Starting May 1, the Assessor’s Office will begin the first phase of a State mandated cyclical reinspection program.

The Massachusetts Department of Revenue’s Bureau of Local Assessment recommends every parcel be inspected at least once every nine-year cycle.

The Assessors are required to re-inspect all properties located in its boundaries. This includes an interior inspection and a full re-measure of all main structures. New digital pictures will also be taken of all main structures.

The Assessors will be verifying all construction data that is currently on record. Maintenance of current and accurate property inventory data is a critical element in the development of uniform, fair market values.

This inspection should take no longer than 15 to 20 minutes. The first phase of this program will include residential properties and continue throughout the year. The second phase will include any remaining residential properties along with commercial, industrial and exempt. The second and final phase will be completed by summer of 2014.

All Assessors that are conducting these inspections will be carrying proper identification and are verified with the Stockbridge Police Department.
