Stockbridge honored for 2012 town report
STOCKBRIDGE -- There were seven births, 13 deaths, 24 marriages and no raffles held in Stockbridge in the year 2012. Similarly, there were 13 parking tickets issued, 234 businesses left their doors open after hours and police investigated one case of dumping trash into an inland waterway.
This and several hundred other facts about the town (329 speeding tickets issued) were contained in the 2012 annual town report.
On Saturday night, the town was honored by the Massachusetts Municipal Association for having one of the best annual town reports in the state for towns under 5,000. The ceremony was held in the Constitution Ballroom of the Boston Sheraton Hotel.
Stockbridge was third overall in the under-5,000 category, behind the towns of Oak Bluffs and Rowe. Stockbridge and Rowe were the only Western Massachusetts towns in the town report category.
"The MMA applauds your efforts in making this publication an effective tool for your community," said Geoffrey C. Beckwith, MMA executive director.
In addition, the town was honored for having the best town website for towns under 5,000 population at the same ceremony.
Town administrator Jorja-Ann P. Marsden, who coordinated the compiling of all the departmental summaries for the annual town report, deflected praise for the town report by pointing out that the department heads’ meticulous individual reports were the key.
As for the town website, Marsden explained that the site was designed by Richard Bradway, a longtime town resident and a member of the Berkshire Hills Regional School Committee.
"Rich did a great job," said Marsden. "He also spent a lot of his own time creating the site."
Marsden said the site has gotten a lot of praise by town residents for being easy to navigate and access.
"We’ve gotten quite a few complimentary comments about the site," she said.
Marsden couldn’t get to the Constitution Ballroom to accept the certificates, but was informed that they will be mailed to the town sometime this week.
