PITTSFIELD -- The Pittsfield Suns got back in the win column Friday night and kept their Futures League playoff hopes alive in the process.

The Suns managed only six hits, but got some solid pitching from Shane Beauchemin (4-2) and Tito Marrero as the Suns defeated Wachusett 7-2 at Wahconah Park Friday night. Marrero pitched three shutout innings to earn his first save and send the crowd of 1,696 home happy.

The Suns got back to the .500 mark at 21-21, and are 11 2 games behind fourth-place North Shore in the battle for the final playoff spot. Pittsfield is 21 2 games behind third-place Torrington and only three games behind second-place Martha's Vineyard.

The Suns still have 11 games to play. They begin a home-and-home with Torrington tonight in Connecticut. The teams will play at Wahconah Park Sunday at 4.

The Dirt Dawgs got on the board first on William Derosier's RBI single.

Pittsfield got that back and then some with a three-run fourth inning. Rob McLam, Chad Funkhouser and Ryan Deitrich all singled to open the inning. Brendan Slattery grounded to first with the infield in, and McLam was thrown out at home. The next batter was Jimmy Ricoy, and he brought home McLam with a ground out. Travis Smith followed with a ground-rule double that scored the other two runs.

Beauchemin gave up both Wachusett runs. He pitched six innings and gave up only five hits and a walk. The right-hander struck out four.

Marrero surrendered two hits in three innings of work.
