Supporters on both sides of Revere casino rally
REVERE, Mass. (AP) - Revere residents for and against a proposed Mohegan Sun casino held events ahead of a vote Tuesday on whether to approve the $1.3 billion project on 42 acres owned by Suffolk Downs.
The Boston Globe reports that about 200 people marched to Revere City Hall Sunday afternoon to protest the casino plans, while more than 400 people filled a VFW Hall for a rally in support of the casino organized by the Friends of Mohegan Sun political action group.
Revere residents approved plans by about 60 percent for a casino that would have straddled the Revere-Boston line, but that plan wasn't approved in East Boston. Tuesday's vote would allow the casino to be built on land in Revere.
