Survivor of fatal Northampton fire sues suspect

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) -- The wife and mother of two men killed in a Northampton house fire has filed a wrongful death suit against the man accused of setting the blaze.

Elaine Yeskie filed suit against Anthony Baye in Hampshire Superior Court on Wednesday.

The 77-year-old Yeskie is the widow of 81-year-old Paul Yeskie Sr. and mother of 39-year-old Paul Yeskie Jr., who died in the December 2009 fire.

Authorities say the 27-year-old Baye set a series of fires in town the same night. He pleaded not guilty and remains in jail awaiting trial.

Elaine Yeskie is seeking monetary and punitive damages. The Daily Hampshire Gazette ( ) reports that the lawsuit states she suffered severe emotional distress having witnessed the death of her husband and son.

Baye's attorney had no comment.
