Suspect arrested in armed robbery at Pittsfield liquor store
PITTSFIELD — Police have arrested a man in an armed robbery Tuesday at K&K Discount Liquors and Variety on North Street.
Police said Sean Matthews, 25, of Pittsfield entered the store about 10:13 a.m. and brandished a knife.
Owner Jerry Ely said Matthews got away with between $400 and $500 cash.
No one was injured in the robbery, police said.
City patrol units as well as members of the department's detective bureau and crime scene unit responded and state troopers assisted with establishing a perimeter around the North Street business and the search of the area.
Witnesses, including the clerk who was on duty at the time of the robbery, provided information to police which led to Matthews' arrest a short time after the robbery, police said.
Matthews was charged with armed robbery and intimidation of a witness. He is expected to be arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court Wednesday.
"The Pittsfield Police are proud of the manner in which this case was handled," according to a statement released Tuesday afternoon.
