Suspect arrested in shooting at Dracut home

DRACUT, MASS. >> One man is dead and another man is under arrest after a weekend shooting during a party at a Dracut home.

The Middlesex district attorney's office announced Monday that 22-year-old Davanni Curran, of Lowell, faces murder and other charges on connection with the shooting at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. He is scheduled to be arraigned later Monday.

The 31-year-old victim was shot in the chest outside the home and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name was not released.

Neighbors say they heard what appeared to be a party at the Methuen Street home and heard several loud bangs which they thought were fireworks, but were actually gunshots.

The Sun of Lowell reports that the shooting was the first homicide in Dracut in nearly a decade.
