Sweet Brook sold for $4.5 million
WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Sweet Brook Nursing Center on Cold Spring Road has been sold to a partnership of three men with experience in operating nursing homes in New York state.
According to Massachusetts Land Records, the partnership, listed as SBOperatingCompany, LLC, bought the facility from New Jersey-based Care One for $4.5 million on June 9.
Alan Brier, administrator of Sweet Brook, said there will be no layoffs, and that the new owners are looking at several capital improvements to the facility.
"It will now be privately owned, and I think it’s going to be a tremendous uplift for the people of the Northern Berkshires as well the residents and their families," Brier said. "The new owners are very hands-on, and they’re interested in further investing in and improving the facility."
He said that for now, the three men wish to remain anonymous, and declined a request for an interview.
Brier said the previous owners were not as interested in upkeep and personal care, and it was more of a chain-oriented operation.
"The new owners are a breath of fresh air," he said. "They are truly interested in helping people."
Sweet Brook is a 184-bed facility with 55,000 square feet of space and 165 employees. Brier said the facility has a "robust" rehabilitation program, a secure dementia unit and "a very dedicated staff with a lot of longevity in long-term care."
Sweet Brook was sold to previous owners Care One by Northern Berkshire Healthcare in 2010, Brier said. Sweetwood, the senior living center next door, was not part of the transaction and remains the property of Care One.
Brier said the new ownership is already moving ahead with a complete renewal of the rehabilitation facility.
