Swimming sweep for Monument on Tuesday


PITTSFIELD -- The Monument Mountain boys and girls swim teams netted a sweep over St. Joseph's on Tuesday. The Spartan girls won 56-37, while the boys prevailed 58-28.

Six different Spartan girls earned first-place finishes for the win. Monument won all three relays, as well. Katie Nugai (100 freestyle) and Aileen Archambault (500 freestyle) picked up wins for the Crusaders.

In the boys meet, Zach Richardson in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and Derrek Rueger in the 200 IM and 100 freestyle were double winners for the Spartans. Collin Anderson and Dan Garrity picked up a pair of second-place finishes each to lead St. Joseph's.

Mount Anthony, Taconic split

BENNINGTON, Vt. -- The Taconic boys picked up the road win 104-66, while the girls fell to Mount Anthony 116-54.

George Sommerville and Jeremy Haven each had two wins to lead the Braves. Sommerville took the 100 butterfly (55.91) and 100 breaststroke (1:06.4). Haven won the 100 freestyle (59.66) and the 50 freestyle (25.62). Ryan Spencer won the 100 backstroke (1:04.44) and the 200 IM (2:33.19) for Mount Anthony.

The Patriots won every event in the girls meet, led by two wins each from Heather Foley (100 backstroke, 200 IM), Kate Ahearn (100 freestyle, 50 freestyle) and Kate Montague (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke).
