Taconic girls qualify for basketball tourney


PITTSFIELD -- For the first time in six years, the Taconic girls are heading to the Western Massachusetts basketball tournament.

Nyanna Slaughter had 21 points and Shalee Conyers added 17 as the Braves beat Drury 51-41 Saturday night to earn their trip to the Division II tourney.

"I’m hoping we can get this thing going and take it into the tournament," said Taconic coach Matt Mickle. "It’s the first time for these seniors."

The Braves broke open a three-point game by outscoring the Blue Devils 17-4 in the second quarter.

Sarah Lamarre had 17 points to lead Drury.

Greylock 57, Lenox 38

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Lucy Barrett and Mackenzie Flynn combined to score 28 points as the Mounties (13-5) picked up a good victory.

The Mounties jumped ou tto a 20-8 lead after one quarter and were up 35-15 at halftime. The Greylock coach credited his team’s defense and the fact that they played with "a lot of energy."

Barrett had 18 points and Flynn chipped in with 10.

Liz Mitts led Lenox with 13 points and Alice Najimy added 10.Boys basketballPittsfield 66, Wahconah 48

PITTSFIELD -- The Pittsfield boys had their perfect season spoiled by a basketball loss at Wahconah last month. The Generals got a measure of revenge with a 66-48 win over the Warriors.

Pittsfield jumped out to a 18-7 lead after one quarter and never trailed. PHS coach Steve Ray said his team played good defense, got its transition game rolling and got a pick-me-up from Alex Weber who drained three 3-point shots in the first half.

Amancho Adopo scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Generals. Weber finished with 15 and Bryce Daley added 13.

Marco Anastasio led Wahconah with 10.
