Taconic hockey beaten in Chicopee tournament

CHICOPEE -- Taconic High School's hockey team fell to 0-3 this season, losing 2-1 to Chicopee High School at the Chicopee Winter Classic tournament.

Connor Conant scored unassisted in the second period to give the Braves a 1-0 lead, but Taconic was undone by a pair of third-period Chicopee goals.

"The goals they got were pretty good goals," Taconic coach Stephen Terpak said. "I think one of them was on a breakaway, and another one was a loose puck in front of the net."

Brenden Leary was in goal for Taconic, though save totals were unavailable. The Braves face Chicopee Comp in the tournament at 3:30 this afternoon. West Springfield beat Comp 7-6 in overtime in the tournament's other game Thursday.

Terpak was proud of the Braves' effort in the loss, especially after being disappointed in what he'd seen last week in a loss to Wahconah. Taconic, however, has been held to three goals in three games this season.

"We're still just having a bit of trouble lighting the lamp," Terpak said. "We've had plenty of opportunities, which is a step in the right direction."
