Taconic, Monument win Giant Slalom finale


PITTSFIELD -- The Taconic girls and Monument Mountain boys finished the Berkshire County Alpine Ski giant slalom season with a flourish Wednesday night.

Taconic had five racers finish in the top 10 to earn the final GS win of the year. The Braves had 184.49 to Monument Mountain's 188.06, while Pittsfield was third at 193.96.

The Monument boys got a win from Trent Pfeiffer, one of two Spartans in the top 10, as they held off Pittsfield. Monument's score was 180.97, while Pittsfield had 185.4 and Mount Greylock had 186.37.

In the girls' race, Monument's Emily Martin earned the victory with a time of 44.04 seconds. She beat Pittsfield/St. Joseph's Emma Peplowski by nearly a half-second, as Peplowski finished in 44.51.

Taconic's top finisher was Maria Giacoletto, who was third and the first of those five Braves in the top 10. Lauren Jones was fourth, Michaela Craft was sixth, Alyssa Latimer was seventh and Amanda Ely was ninth.

In the boys race, Pfeiffer's time of 41.91 not only won the race but was more than a half-second faster than second-place finisher Will Dyer-Kloman (42.67).

Pfeiffer and teammate Trevor McFarland (eighth) had top-10 finishes for the Spartans.

Second-place Pittsfield had three in the top 10, but the Generals' top finishers were Sean Keenan (sixth), Erich Maynard (seventh) and Garrett Dempsey (ninth).

Taconic's Eamon Connor did not race. Taconic coach Marc Latimer said it was a coach's decision.

The slalom season starts Monday. There will be a race on Monday and then two races the next week on Monday and Wednesday.

Warriors sweep St. Joseph's

DALTON -- The Warrior girls took two of three relays and had four individual winners is defeating St. Joseph's, 101-66. The Wahconah boys also won., 73-54.

Logan Gresser's 2:51.1 in the 200 individual medley qualified her for Western Mass. Teammates Summer Daley (100 butterfly), Beh McBain (100 backstroke) and Mariah MacDowell (100 breastroke) also picked up wins.

The Crusaders were led by their leading swimmers, Katie Nugai, who picked up victories in the 50 and 100 freestyles, and Aileen Archambault, winner in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.

Nugai, who qualified for Western Mass. in the 50 freestyle event earlier this month, narrowly missed qualifying for the 100 free by 0.09 of a second.

On the boys' side, the Warriors' Kyle Miller was a winner in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Connor Lein was a double winner for the Crusaders in the 50 and 100 freestyle.Lein qualified for Western Mass. in the former event.

Taconic Hills sweeps

CRARYVILLE, N.Y. -- The Taconic Hills girls improved to 8-1 with a 94-70 wn over New Lebanon. Andrea Nack led Taconic Hills with wins in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Hannah French had wins in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.

The boys also won, 84-24.
