Tanglewood to stream 75 classic performances this summer
LENOX - To celebrate its 75th season, Tanglewood is offering 75 digital music streams of classic performances - one a day during the season that spans June 20-Sept. 2 - at www.bso.org, its press office has announced.
A news release from Tanglewood said: "This special collection of music will provide listeners with a cross-section of the festival's concert history and uniquely tell the story of the festival from its birth in 1937 through the present day by presenting many of Tanglewood's most memorable performances. Most of the recordings featured in this project are being digitized, remastered, and made available to the public for the first time ever.
"These 75 MP3 streams (available as 128 or 256kbps streams) will be available free of charge for 24 hours starting at 8 a.m. EST on the day of the release at www.bso.org/mediacenter; when the 24-hour stream has ended, the digital music will be available at www.bso.org for purchase as a download."
A complete schedule of the streams will be announced at a later date.
Tanglewood's press office reports: "The repertoire for the 75 streams will be chosen from a vast array of programs and artists and will feature many of the greatest conductors, composers, and performing artists of the 20th and 21st centuries; world and American premieres of works that have lived on through repeat performances across the globe; and Fellows of the Tanglewood Music Center, many of whom went on to have major careers and perform in the world's most prestigious concert halls and opera houses."
