Teen charged for allegedly stealing bus
ADAMS -- A North County teenager faces felony charges for allegedly stealing a school bus and driving it across the county, according to local police.
The 17-year-old male, whom local authorities didn’t identify Sunday night, will be arraigned today in North Berkshire District Court on one count each of larceny of a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property. The suspect has been held in the Adams Police Department lock-up since being arrested late Sunday afternoon.
Around 5 p.m., Pittsfield police notified Adams police they had received a call from a relative of the man that he had taken a school bus from the town. Police said he apparently drove the big yellow vehicle to an unknown location in South County.
The joy ride ended around 5:30 p.m. when Adams police pulled the bus over on Commercial Street and officers arrested the driver without incident.
The bus belonging to Dufour Inc. of Hinsdale was taken from their parking lot on Hoosac Street, but police are unsure how long it had been missing.
Police say they are still investigating how the teenager got access to the bus, which wasn’t damaged.
