Teen driver stable after Jaws of Life rescue in Otis
OTIS -- A New York teenager was in stable condition at Berkshire Medical Center on Saturday afternoon after a Route 8 car crash on Friday evening required her to be extricated by the Jaws of Life.
Rebecca Zell, 19, of Mamaroneck, N.Y., was transported to the Pittsfield hospital by Otis Ambulance after the collision between the Toyota Solara she was driving and a Chevy pickup truck carrying a full utility trailer operated by Devin Dascher, 47, of Cazenovia, N.Y.
Speed and icy roads appear to be factors in the 7:15 p.m. crash, according to Otis Police Chief Roberta Sarnacki, who said that no charges have yet been filed.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash, just north of Reservoir Road, shut down Route 8 in both directions for about an hour. Otis and Becket fire departments, Sandisfield Ambulance and the Massachusetts State Police assisted at the scene.
