The Forum: Auditions set for Berkshire Theatre Group community production of 'Danny Dollar'

PITTSFIELD >> Berkshire Theatre Group will hold auditions from 6 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, at the Colonial Theatre, 111 South St., for both its Community Theatre Production and the BTG Plays! 2016-2017 touring show, "Danny Dollar Millionaire Extraordinaire: The Lemonade Escapade," adapted from the book by Pittsfield author Ty Allan Jackson.

The title of the 11th annual Community Theatre Production will be announced at a later date. Travis G. Daly will direct the show with musical director Mark Gionfriddo. Child (Grade 3 and up) and adult actors, musicians, backstage crew, technical support, usher staff and parent volunteers are needed.

For the musical, student auditions will be held during the first three hours of each session and the last hour will be for adults. Adults should be prepared to sing only 16 bars of a song and bring the accompanying sheet music in the key in which they prefer to sing. Students should be ready to learn songs from "Beauty and the Beast." Callbacks will take place as needed.

Daly will also direct "Danny Dollar," a stage play adapted by E. Gray Simons III. Ten actors, from Grade 7 and up, are being sought for this touring production that focuses on an African American family and their entrepreneurial son, Danny Dollar. This show will rehearse this fall and tour during the school year. It runs, on average, one show per week. The show will have performances during the school day, occasional week-long engagements and occasional weekends. The roles and positions are open to members of the Berkshire community.

For "Danny Dollar" auditions, actors will be asked to read sides from the book and/or play.

Appointments are necessary to audition. To schedule an audition time slot or for more information, call 413-448-8084, ext. 23.
