PITTSFIELD -- Miss Hall's School recently rolled out the red carpet to honor students and their work in the visual and performing arts.

The school's first Gala of the Arts (GOTA) was developed and presented on March 26 by the school's Expressive Arts Department in the Woods Theatre of the Elizabeth Gatchell Klein Arts Center.

"The goal," Expressive Arts Department Chair Sophie Lee ('96) said in a written statement, "is to highlight and celebrate student achievements in the arts. There are so many students working on any number of great projects throughout the year, but we've never really had one event to recognize them."

The event was fashioned after the Oscar film awards ceremony, with senior Kelsey Rich conducting live interviews with students, faculty and staff during a red carpet walk-in. The ladies of Miss Hall's dressed to the nines, from classic to couture to the truly offbeat.

Rich and her classmates, juniors Ryn Nason, Molly Almeida, Jasmin Guzman and Rosie Zhao, helped to organize and emcee the event with faculty presenters, including recently retired arts chair Gary Miller.

The evening included a variety of musical performances, slideshows of photography and art, live dance and studio art displays, and concluded with a dessert reception.
