PITTSFIELD — Amid spring tournaments is one that won't make your local sports pages.

From April 29 to May 1, students from 21 schools gathered to match wits, athleticism and creativity during the 60th Massachusetts Junior Classical League State Convention, held at Barnstable High School in Hyannis. This year's theme was, "Ubi Concordia, ibi Victoria (Where there is unity, there is victory)."

The MassJCL chapters' efforts throughout the school year culminate in graphic arts contests, academic tests and Certamen (quiz team event), creative arts competitions, "That's Entertainment" auditions, running for a MassJCL office and even Olympika track and field events.

Members of the Taconic High School Latin classes were there under the leadership of Latin teacher, Christine Cope, placing eighth overall, with several awards in academics, art, and Olympika events.
