Three weekend break-ins reported in Clarksburg
CLARKSBURG -- Police are investigating break-ins at three River Road businesses over the weekend.
Period Lighting, Cascade School Supplies, and R.I. Baker Co. were broken into at some point between 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, according to Police Chief Michael Williams.
Though no items of value were stolen, there was some property damage and vandalism. Though most of the businesses had alarm systems, they were not triggered, according to Williams.
"We assume it’s probably kids because they didn’t bother [stealing]." Williams said.
Entry was made into a side room at Period Lighting. The room contained paint, which the perpetrators used to vandalize the interior of the building.
"It was just one area of the building they got into," Williams said.
A door at Cascade School Supplies was pried open, Williams said. Upon further investigation by employees, it appeared nothing had been stolen or damaged.
On Monday morning, police received a report of breaking and entering at R.I. Baker that appears to be from the same string of break-ins. A garage door was broken into and several trucks were searched but not damaged, according to Williams.
"On the outside they painted the outside of a van, garage doors, set off a couple of fire extinguishers outside of garage," Williams said. "[R.I. Baker] did have some stuff in the storage are that was of some value, but nobody seemed to touch anything."
Luckily, the van that was tagged was actually going to be scrapped, Williams said.
"The most damage was the building, garage door," Williams said.
Police will inspect the fire extinguishers and paint cans for fingerprints. If the perpetrators are young adults as police suspect, their prints will likely not be in the system, Williams said.
"Right now, we don’t have a whole lot," Williams said.
