Tire breaks off pickup truck, kills motorist in Lexington
LEXINGTON, MASS. >> Massachusetts State Police say a man was killed after a tire came loose from a pickup truck driving on state Route 128 and smashed into his vehicle.
State police spokesman David Procopio says the accident happened around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday in Lexington after the left back wheel of a 1997 Dodge RAM broke off from the truck's rear axle.
The tire "flew over the median" and bounced off one vehicle before striking the victim's northbound car. State police say the man, who wasn't identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police say they will investigate to determine whether or not to file charges against the driver of the Dodge, a 19-year-old woman.
