NORTH ADAMS -- Thomas G. Elder, son of Mr. and Mrs. George L. Elder of 218 Franklin St., has been promoted to the grade of airman first class in the U.S. Air Force. Elder, stationed at Minot Air Force base, Minot, N.D. returned to duty there recently after spending a 27-day leave here with his parents. A-1C Elder was graduated from Drury High School in June 1961 and before joining the Air Force was employed at the McClelland Press in Williamstown.
ADAMS -- Francis J. Frodyma, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Frodyma of 39 East Jordan St., will leave tomorrow for Athens, Ga., and Naval Supply Corps School for 26 weeks following receipt of his commission Feb. 7 as ensign in the U.S. Navy.
Ens. Frodyma is a native of Adams, graduate of St. Stanislaus Kostka School, Adams Memorial High School, class of 1959, and University of Massachusetts with a degree in economics, class of 1963. 25 years ago today
NORTH ADAMS -- Three Drury Senior High School musicians have been selected to participate in the Mass. All-State Music Festival in Andover.
Jennifer Kemp, daughter of Susan Alexander, was chosen for her second All-State performance as a senior flutist. Deborah Cahoon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cahoon of North Eagle Street, is a junior, chosen for this year's band as a clarinet player. Beth Norcross, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Norcross, is a junior oboist in this year's All-State Concert Band.
NORTH ADAMS -- McCann posted its 11th win of the season, 62-61 over Lee in overtime. The victory puts the Hornets, with two regular-season games remaining, one win away from clinching their first-ever Western Mass. boys basketball tournament berth. Joe Koscinski sank two foul shots with eight seconds remaining in the overtime to give McCann the final margin of 62-61. Horbal led the McCann scoring with 19 points, and Sam Banks had 15.

NORTH BERKSHIRE -- Several area residents have been named to the dean's list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y., for the fall semester. From North Adams, Scott K. Allard is a senior majoring in management, Matthew A. Lamb is a junior majoring in industrial and management engineering and Daniel C. Nolan is a freshman majoring in computer science. Joshua J. Delmolino of Cheshire is a junior majoring in computer science.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Mounties polished off Lenox High 67-57 to clinch a Southern Division title. Greg Holland and Chase Shepard added 13 and 14 respectively. Others who chipped in were Brodie Cunningham, (3), Richie Haley (2), Mike Quick (8), Mike Holland (2), B.J. Van Luling (18) and, Jake Snow (7).
