50 years ago today NORTH ADAMS -- Two women who have been instrumental in bringing nearly 400 children from the New York slums to Northern Berkshire for summer vacations in the last 20 years will share the Human Relations Award of the Northern Berkshire Chapter of the National Conference of Christians and Jews this year.

Mrs. Fred C. Perry of 308 E. Main St., and Mrs. Albert A. Maroni of 206 E. Quincy St., will receive the award at the annual dinner of the chapter Feb. 25 at the Taconic Park restaurant, Williamstown.

ADAMS -- Dr. George T. Mullen of North Adams was elected president of W. B. Plunkett Memorial Hospital medical staff and chief of surgery at a meeting of hospital trustees yesterday afternoon.

Other officers elected as follows: Vice president, Dr. John C. Cashin, North Adams; secretary-treasurer, Dr. Francis S. Gospodarek; chief of medicine, Dr. James J. Macek; chief of obstetrics, Dr. Gospodarek; radiologist, Dr. V. Chichakly; and pathologist, Dr. William Beautyman.

NORTH ADAMS -- Christmas Brook Figure Skating Club members are getting ready for competition. Members are, Jessica Robertson, Briana Kassin, Willa Simon, Katey Melito, Julie Evans, Jennifer Jozefiak, Sharon Dion, Marissa Carlson, and David Rice.

NORTH ADAMS -- Family Billiards on Curran Highway has listed the winners of its "Kids League" tournament held Saturday. Winners in the girls division were Kara Wroldson, first; Trista O'Neill, second and Jennifer Lehman, third.

Winners in the boys division were Ryan Frederick, first; Nick Duda, second and David Ferinando, third. The trophy for "most improved" was awarded to Nicky McClendon and Del Krzeminski.

10 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Under first year head coach Jack Racette, the Mount Greylock boys' basketball team is one of the most improved in Berkshire County. Team members are Mike Fedotowsky, Jake Snow, Mike Lucida, Mike Larson, Devon Rock, Phil Mabey, Brody Cunningham, Mike Quick, G.J. VanLuling, Richie Haley, Greg Holland Mike Holland and Chase Shepard.
