STOCKBRIDGE — The Big Move is next week.

The town will be moving its offices to its new digs at the former Stockbridge Plain School next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, March 19-21.

As a result, according to the town's administrative assistant, Jorja-Ann P. Marsden, the town offices will be closed those three days.

Marsden said the town plans to reopen at the Plain School on Monday morning, March 24.

Stockbridge has been renovating the former Plain School for reuse as the Town Hall for more than a year.

Town officials had expected to move in several months ago, but a state fire marshal ruled that water pressure to the third floor of the building, which is presently vacant, was not sufficient.

The town was in the process of addressing that issue, and voters a month ago accepted a $2.9 million loan and transferred $500,000 from the Stabilization Fund to cover the cost of an upgraded water storage and distribution system for the Main Street corridor.

With those plans in place, the town won a temporary certificate of occupancy from the state Building Appeals Board three weeks ago.
